JOHN POPE ELECTRICAL WAS BASED IN FYSHWICK, CANBERRA, AND WAS A NICHE ELECTRICAL WHOLESALER BUSINESS.Canberra couple Daryl and Wendy Read purchased this business in December 2002 and changed the name to POPES Electrical & Data Supplies in 2005.When purchasing the business, Daryl and Wendy aimed to maintain the existing niche market of industrial control equipment while expanding into the domestic and commercial electrical, lighting and data markets. This plan has been carefully executed with new stores opening in the Canberra suburbs of Mitchell (2003) and Phillip (2009). Most recently POPES relocated its Fyshwick store to larger premises on Barrier St and opened Canberra’s only electrical design centre and Clipsal by Schneider showroom.In 2003 POPES Electrical & Data Supplies became a member of the Gemcell Electrical Group which is Australia’s largest independent electrical wholesaler buying group. Membership of this buying group ensures POPES receives the best prices on the best brands and is able to compete on price with all of its multinational competitors.In 2016 POPES opened it’s Security division and became a distributor for market leading Bosch Security Systems. With a dedicated Security BDM and a comprehensive range of products POPES are able to supply all your security needs from residential through to commercial projects.As a locally owned and operated company all profits from POPES Electrical & Data supplies stays in the Canberra community.
